Favorite Books of 2018

2018 is just about gone and it seemed to fly by so fast. But we read some fantastic books this year and wanted to share the best of the best of what we read. Not all of these books came out this year and this list is in no particular order. Of over 100 books that I read this year, these are the ones that stayed with me.

(Note: I have had the opportunity to review a few books that will be released in 2019 that I loved. Those are not on this list but will be on a Most Anticipated 2019 list instead.)

First up is…….

35052265

Bloody Rose by Nicholas Eames“Nicholas Eames crafts these characters so well that I flew through the first half of this book and into the second half where things really start picking up and I was blown away.”

35994830

Kings of Paradise by Richard NellKings of Paradise is ambitious and brilliant. This is not a book for the faint of heart…”

34606064

Jade City by Fonda Lee“I wish that I had read it sooner.”

36518473

One of Us by Craig DiLouie“…a beautifully constructed tragic tale of prejudice and where it leads. Several times through the course of listening to this audiobook, my heart broke into tiny pieces for things that happened. I cannot recommend this book enough.”

Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett – “I wasn’t even done with this book yet and I was telling people in my life that they needed to read it. I think this is a book that will appeal to a broad range of readers because it is just so well crafted and engaging. Go read it.”

35068705

The Poppy War by RF Kuang“Essentially, this story takes many of the events in early 20th century Chinese history, including the Nanking Massacre, and transplants them into a Song dynasty setting and then adds shamans into the mix for good measure. And it is fantastic.”

35661274

The Ikessar Falcon by KS Villoso“With every book she writes, Villoso’s stories just keep getting better and better.”

29743933

They Mostly Come Out at Night by Benedict Patrick“A fast-paced dark fairy tale with twists and turns, this is a book that I let sit on my to-read pile for far too long.”

30337680

The Armored Saint by Myke Cole“It’s only January so I don’t want to start naming my 2018 favorites but I am finding that the more I think about this book, the more I love it. So this one just may make the list.”

37884491

Priest of Bones by Peter McLean“Beyond anything else, this is a story of soldiers coming home from a war and trying to be something other than men of war and violence. This is the story of how the horrors of war stay with those soldiers long after they come home and how it changes them.”
