October Wrap-Up

It’s been another month already! This month flew by like crazy for me. While it wasn’t quite as busy with book reading this month, I managed to get in 10 books this month.

Memories of Ice by Steven Erikson

I got to the third book in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series! It was a great book with another ending that really got to me. The fourth book is sitting on my shelf waiting for me to make room with its 1000+ page self. Which I am definitely going to do soon!

The Spellbook of Katrina Van Tassel by Alyssa Palombo

This book disappointed me. I was expecting more spooky, more supernatural but got lots of romance instead. It wasn’t a bad romance but I wanted something more…Halloween-y.

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

This book was a pleasant surprise! It was hyped so much earlier this year around its release but despite that, I was still uncertain of it but ended up really enjoying it.

Count Girls In by Karen Panetta and Katianne Williams

A non-fiction read! This was a wonderful book about how to interact with our young girls to encourage them into STEM interests and, eventually, careers. I found it to be remarkably insightful and full of wonderful suggestions for engaging with girls.

They Mostly Come Out at Night by Benedict Patrick

This was my favorite book this month, hands down. I don’t know what else I can say about it but that I loved this dark fairy tale so so much!

Where the Waters Turn Black by Benedict Patrick

The sequel (kind of…) to They Mostly Come Out at Night. I didn’t love this one quite as much as I did the first but it was still wonderful and I will be reading books three and four in the very near future.

City of Lies by Sam Hawke

I finally got around to reading/listening to City of Lies! It was a good story but I was a little bit let down by the mystery in it.

On the Shoulders of Titans by Andrew Rowe

I actually just finished this book a few hours before writing this post! This book absolutely lived up to its predecessor. If you enjoyed SPFBO finalist Sufficiently Advanced Magic, you will enjoy this one just as much.

I normally do a TBR for the month that I am going into alongside the Wrap-Up but I am currently participating in a Wheelathon reading challenge on Goodreads. Every week, our group is given a new word that we have to spell out with titles/author names of books we are reading. So with that, I am trying to keep my to-read pile kind of fluid this month. There are absolutely some books that I want to make sure that I get to but I don’t want to have my heart set on something and then not be able to get to it until December.

What did you guys read this month? What was your favorite? Let me know in the comments!
