Apparently there are only two months left to this year. Who knew?! So I stole this End of the Year tag to take a look at what I have left to read this year!

First though, I need to get something off my chest.

As I’m sure many people have seen, Goodreads has their Goodreads Choice Awards up for the first round of voting. I think it is pretty common for many of us readers to feel like no matter how much we read, there are only ever a handful of the books that end up nominated that we have actually read which is frustrating enough.

But then we also have somehow have to deal with books being on the list that aren’t even out yet!

Artemis by Andy Weir is listed in the Science Fiction category but doesn’t come out until November 14th. How is anyone supposed to vote for that except the readers that have already read the ARCs?

I haven’t checked all the categories to see how many times this has happened throughout the entirety of the Goodreads Choice Awards so far but I find this incredibly frustrating. As most people will not have had the opportunity to read it yet, it will likely not get through the opening round so was there just an extra slot to fill? Out of all the books that came out this year, there was a slot that needed to be filled?

If anyone has any insight into this, I would love to understand!

Anyhow, enough ranting and on to the tag!

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

Not really any single book that I would like to make sure I get through this year but I would like to get through at least the fourth book in The Wheel of Time series. I am on book three right now so it is not outside the realm of possibility.

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

Again, no. I don’t normally do seasonal reading. Not on purpose, anyway.

Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?

Yes! The aforementioned Artemis and the book that every fantasy geek has on their soon-to-be-released TBR.

What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

I’ve got several that I am pretty sure that I am going to read by the end of the year. Apart from those already listed, I will definitely be read Age of Assassins by RJ Barker and The Shadow of What was Lost by James Islington. I would also really like to read A Plague of Giants by Kevin Hearne but we shall see.

Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favorite book of the year?

I am pretty sure I am going to love Oathbringer unless it totally tanks. Other than that, I am looking forward to any of the other listed so maybe one or more of them will be a new favorite!

Have you already started making reading plans for 2018?

A little bit. I’d like to read more classics and non-fiction but I haven’t made any firm plans as of yet. It’s not quite the end of the year, dangit!!

  1. Fully agree with you on the GR awards. Just stupid of them.

I am just as excited for Oathbringer!!! I was lucky enough to finish WoT for the second time this year as we did a massive BR on GR of a book a month. Age of Assassins was awesome, but I also have the exact other two books you listed on my finish this year list! May we succeed! :D And then I am very much also looking forward to the last book in Skovron’s Empire of Storms series, Blood and Tempest which will be released Nov 28 and Michael J Sullivan’s next Riyria book in December.

    1. Oh man, listed out like that it seems like a lot lol. I’ll have to check out the other two books you mentioned. I don’t think I’ve read anything in those series.

      1. Yes, The Copper Promise! Do you know it? It’s the first book of her Copper Cat trilogy and she also wrote The Ninth Rain which is the first book of her new series. Love it! If you do not have those on your TBR, definitely add them! But I think you do.

    1. Same here. In the Fantasy category, I feel like most of the books that made a splash this year are on there so I’m not too upset about it, just Artemis is what’s bothering me. The more I think about it, I’m becoming convinced it is a marketing thing.
