A big thank you to Netgalley and t he publisher for an ARC for Waking Gods.

As a reader, I think I spend a lot of time looking for my next favorite book. There are a lot of wonderful books out there and I thoroughly enjoy a lot that I experience but few ever make it to the rank of Favorite. Because there are so few that make it, the emotional experience of finding a book that makes it into that category for me is one of the best feelings in the world.

The Themis Files has barreled its way into this category.

I don’t think that I can write a long review on this book simply because a lot that I want to talk about regarding Waking Gods gets very deep into Spoiler Territory. But you can bet that come April 2017 when this book is released, it will be featured on the Book Geeks Uncompromised Podcast.

So I’ll settle for a long answer to a short question: how does Waking Gods compare to Sleeping Giants, the first book in The Themis Files?

I think it is just slightly better. As I absolutely loved Sleeping Giants, there was not much more room for upward motion but this book managed it. I was worried going in that this book would not be as good as the first and that it would suffer from the dreaded middle book syndrome.

It doesn’t.

Mr. Neuvel has really showcased his talents as an author in this book, making story decisions that I am sure made his job much harder. I am happier than I can say that the easy route was not taken in directing this story.

And now I return to my search for my next Favorite as I wait for the third book to come out which I am sure will also find a home on my Favorites shelf.

  1. I just finished Sleeping Giants and loved it! Feels like the first good sci-fi I’ve read in a while. I’m so freaking excited for this one and the fact that you liked it gives me hope for a great sequel.

    1. Oh man, I was shaking through most of this book because I needed someone to talk to about it. I agree, it feels like I have had a hard time lately finding really good sci-fi. I may be fangirling over this series just a wee bit lol.
